Its really not that bad. When the **** is turned to A/C, it draws in air from Outside the car. Max A/C takes air from inside the car, makes it hotter or colder. When using A/C or Max A/C, your going to get cold air if the **** is turned to the cold or blue side, and heat if its turned to the red, or heat side. When you put your selector on Defrost, it still uses the A/C pump, just directs the air to the windshield.

Either way, A/C or Max A/C is going to de-humidify the air, and thats how it helps the windows not fog up.

Recirculated air apparently cannot be selected for the defrost mode, though the A/C system is automatically engaged.
