Default '98 V6 going Duals question(s)

I have a '98 3.8L and want to go to true duals. What will I need to accomplish this? I'd like to go with an X-Pipe setup from cats back but am unsure of the '98 configuration to do so.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok here it is with me, i have a 98 3.8l auto, and if you have ever seen under your car it is going to be really tight so make sure you have a really good brand/fit when buying it, for pipes i would go with an H but make sure it fits, i bought the pypes eprformance cat back kit from AM and there isnt alot of clearance installing it so be carefull, and duals wont give you to much jump btw

I did an H pipe, i think the H pipes sound better on the V6s, the x pipes get raspy at high rpms.

Easy way is to take it to a shop and let them either fab it up for you or install the pipes you get online for you. If you buy online then you can pick what size you want and you get the better bended tubes. I want to say mandrel bent, where the tube is stretched to form a curve and not bent which changes the curvature of the pipe to have a groove on it where it is "bent".

From what I hear, its recommended that if you order online that you get the same brand so that you don't have to worry about a part being longer or whatever then the next part of the system. Of course if you have a shop put it in they should be able to fix that.

I thought that a "true dual" means no mid pipe just pipes going from the Headers to cats and then to muffler. So you have no mid pipe where they meet up at. I am sure some one will expand or correct me on this and if it affects low end power or not.

If you want a mid pipe then you need to disconnect your "y" pipe at the cats and install your choice of mid pipe and then you can put in any "GT" catback I believe. Americanmuscle.com has a kit last time I checked that made it so you can use a gt catback.

You will also need to grab the hangers for the other side of the car for the muffler and back. Or you can just turn down the pipes after the mid pipe for a very loud but kind of droning sound.

Hope I have helped.

Thanks for all the input. Guess I'm just gonna take it and let the muffler shop hook me up.

Thats what I'm doing as well. So far I've been quoted $300 by 4 different shops plus I have the mufflers so thats another $150 for flwos but I hear you can but just as good sounding mufflers cheaper so just throwin that out there.

yeah just talk to the shop, remember they r slow because of the economy, so they will go out of their way to get your business and may sell you nice muflers for cheap, my guy wanted to give me 2 flow 40s and install for 350, i already had mufflers so i didnt, wish i couldve :-p but yeah, talk to a shop, no need for exhaust kits, your not gonna get much horse power from a "well designed" exhaust.

a pypes X system for a 97 works just fine. it's exactly the same for the 98. the violator mufflers are a good choice and the exhaust will get you 10hp on the top end.

my exhaust is MAC offroad H with factory headers and cherrybomb extreme single chambers (flowmaster race single chamber clones) and 97 goerlich stainless tails. it's loud but sounds good
