A pipe bender, welder, and band saw. Yea your average shade tree mechanic won't have all the tools or skill needed, but many do and don't even realize it.

I hope you guys are joking. Good luck trying to get something that'll actually fit and have the EGR and o2 sensor bungs in the precise locations. Also, you probably won't be able to do any serious coating (ceramic, chrome, jet, etc). Pay the $350 (which is inexpensive for headers) and get something that will actually work.

It seriously isn't hard to make headers, and as for coating, you send them out to be coated, not too expensive. The bungs are just weld in's, again not hard. And if you can't make your own headers that can fit a 3.8 then you really have issues.

bgnn32 is right making a set of headers is easy with the right tools---but making a quality set that are free flowing with equal length tubes and fit properly is extremeley hard and time consuming.

I didn't make any for my mustang, but I have made many sets for different NASCAR racecars, the process is the same, you measure, you bend, you tack, you test fit, and you finish weld. Then have them coated. It isn't a difficult thing to do at all, you just need a little intelligence and a little skill with the bender and welder.

I call BS... pics or GTFO.....

NASCAR cars are easy to work on - knowing how your going to adjust it is the hard part. Everything is simple, stripped to the bone... clearance isn't an issue. I've seen crew members actually stand in the engine bay with the engine in the car. They can change an engine in 15 minutes easy.

Making headers for the 3.8 where you have less than 1/4" of clearance from the starter and frame is totally different.... again you have an EGR tube and o2 sensors to deal with. GTs and LS1's can become a nightmare.
