Default vent plug

i replaced my thermostat and filled it with coolant but i saw a little sticker under the hood that says vent plug must be removed when refilling radiator to avoid engine damage. i asked my dad and he said thats where u bleed out the air and it says to read owners manual for instructions but i dont have one so can somebody list the steps of this process caus my car overheated and my dad said ur supposed to bleed the air out of the plug.

Hey its been sitting since the end of november and I just got it out the other day. I get my licence back in a couple weeks so Ill be detailing it and puttin my rims on then. I also just noticed that one of the hoses that connects to the egr tube cracked and fell off so that contributed to the dirtyness of the engine. (pic was also taken with my cell phone)
