Cold air intake= decrease in fuel efficiency?
Hey
I recently added a cold air intake to my 04 auto mustang. I filled up my tank to see if ther was any noticable gas mileage difference because most of my driving is done on the highway anywayz.. Well, Im at about half a tank and have only put 98 miles on my car... Im kinda disappointed bc i do not press ont he gas hard, or rev much. Could this be a cause of a slow leak somewhere? Maybe a difference in air:fuel ratio? Im gonna post a picture of my set up to see if anyone has any suggestions as to why Im only gettin 100 miles for half a tank of gas.. Before I got anywhere between 125-140 i believe(rough estimation) The CAI that I have is from UPRproducts off of atomicperformance.com. Thanks

There is something wrong, yes could could have a leak somewhere, take everything back off and put it back on. When I had a 98 V6, I actually got a little better mpg, about 10-15 miles per tank when I put on the CAI.
They should give u better gas millage. I didn't really notice any difference in mine but there are a lot of factors that effect it. It could also just be your gauge. I know I have filled up when the gauge said half tank before and it only took 4 gallons. O_o
If you want to test it it is best to fill the tank up after a trip and compute your gas millage verses just looking at the gauge and guessing.

Im definately gonna hav to take everything apart and make sure everything is air tight. The only sensor i needed to change from the stock intake was my MAF sensor. Right now I actually have a bolt plugging where the "air temperature sensor" was supposed to go. My guess is air is escaping from that hole. I bought a rubber stopper and some sealant which I have to let cure for 24 hours so Ill do that tomorrow. I'll let you guys know how it works for anyone else who has had problems with these kinda intakes for the 04 mustang.
My stock intake did not come with one... When I called atomicperformance.com, they said that people just get creative with what they plug that hole up with. Right now I have a 3/5 inch bolt plugging it, but tomorrow im plugging it with a rubber stopper and some heavy duty sealant. as soon as i figure out how to get my pix up, ill get em all up
