Default wont shift :o(

i have a 97 V6 automatic. I just broke 100k miles the other day. (I nearly cried because of it but thats beside the point). Anyway, I went to make the short trip across town and it wouldnt shift. I backed out of my driveway, and put it in drive and went down the road, i noticed it didnt shift. It has done this twice before and i shifted it manually, slowing down and putting it in 1st then speeding up and putting it in 2nd then drive, and it was fine. I tried this time and nothing happened. My shifter does not even have the resistance it had before, I can just slide it from 1st to park as im accelerating down the road and nothing happens. As anyone would be, im mad. Please tell me its only the linkage. I fear the worst though.

Well since you're not supposed to drive it like that anyway, you probably wore out your range sensor.

Its an electrical connector on the side of the transmission.

It's the sensor that actually has the contacts on it to tell the ecu what gear you put the car in. It's a black plastic thing on the side of the tranny with a shift linkage going to it. Pretty easy to spot.

Thanks guys. I figured out that the clip that holds my shifter cable onto my shifter is broke. Does anyone know where i can get a new one? Or even something that would work.

IMO dont bother with a stocker, get yourself a B&M hammer shifter for the money.
