Application for a 2004 Rear End
Hey Guys-
What's goin on everyone? I have a question about a 2004 Cobra Rear End that I am going to put on a 1999 V6 Mustang that I have. I am curious if I were to do that if it is a bolt on application, or are there any modifications that would need to be made in order for the Rear End to be compatible? Eventually I am going to put a 2004 Cobra Motor and Tranny in the car, but am starting with the Rear End first. Can anyone help?

You will need to buy the bracket and installation kit from Ford unless the IRS comes complete with it
Also on 94-98 Mustangs you will need to drill 4 holes for the brackets, I think the 99-04 already have them pre-drilled.
After its all in you need to go get an alignment performed. Well you dont need to but its highly recomended.
This is also a very good time to change the diff fluid with some Royal Purple and friction modifier. Also a differential brace is very important and always should be the first mod with any 99-04 Ford IRS.
A Maximum Motorsport IRS kit will also be a very good upgrade for the rear end while it is out, get the springs and shocks that you want and put her in.
Factory the 03/04 has 3.55 gears so you might be happy with those, if not then this is also a great time to put in a set of 3.73 or 4.11 gears.
Good luck, its a worth while mod and ditches 125lbs (I think) of unspring weight over the GT rear end though it is heavier than the 7.5" and 8.8" SRA's.
