v6 to v8 swap
I just graduated high school and im going into machanics and auto body. Befor i start this fall i was wanting to do some hands on engine work this summer, just to get an idea of the components of an engine and trans and how most of the things work.
I have a 2000 v6 5 speed and i really want to drop a v8 in it instead of getting a GT. I have found a 302 from an 87 lincoln for $350, and it runs great. What all parts will i need, and what are some problems i might face? Will it need to be carbureted??? Also what will i need transmission wise, can it bolt up to my trans, or should i get a new one???
Please any tips will help,
Thank you

1.) Do research. It is not a cheap or easy thing to swap an engine.
2.) The 5.0 does not swap as easy into the 96+ V6's as it does into the 94-95's.
3.) For the amount you spend on the swap you would murder that 5.0 in every way with your V6.
4.)The tranny will be fine.
5.)If you really want hands on work, do work to the V6 or get a GT. It will save you time and money in the long run to just buy a V8 powered car instead of swapping it, especially if you do not have the knowledge yet.
Stock, your V6 is nearly as fast as that 5.0 would be in your car, just to let you know...

Well the lincoln only makes 225hp where the 2000 3.8L makes 190hp. Weight evens the rest out and it becomes a drivers race.
Another thing, federal rules and regulations (Laws) state that you can not put an older model engine into a newer model car. IE Cant put a 95' 302 into a 96' because the 302 ended in 95'. Also you cant put a 1998 Ford Explorer 5.0L into the 96' or a 98' at that because it is a truck motor, different class.
There are people who do it, and people who have gotten on here and argued the fact and went ahead and did it.
You may be able to get away with it for a while depending on the inspection and smog stations you go to, but eventually you will be cought for the swap.
Its better just to buy a GT as it is or build your V6.
How many miles are on your V6? Whats the interior and exterior color? Leather? Any mods? 5spd? ABS/TC? What would you want to sell it for?
There are lots of 94-98 GT's under the $5k mark and again many 99-04 GT's under the 8k mark.
