yeah swaps are a pretty bad idea on cars that actually have value cause then they have to assess damages. on say an old fox body, i still dont think they would give a **** because it would be totaled so easily.
it's not your car they are worried about it's somebody elses car or property or life. that's why V8's have a higher insurance. not necessarly because they are worth more but becauce people will use the power in an irresponsible manner and destroy sombody elses property and cause bodily injury

Thats how it should be but it's not. Now days everything is about money. If that was the case then why would a newer, safer car have a higher insurrance rate than an old POS that could break while your driving down the road causing you to flip and roll into a schoolzone crosswalk with 15 1st graders in the way who were talking to the crossing guard in the middle of the road about their school teacher's missing finger, and about billy the bully's black teeth.

actually my 81 VW diesel pickup has higher rates than my 99 GT vert. why? it doesn't have the modern safety features that the GT has

I used to have a 2002 v6 5speed mustang and was wanting to either drop in a v8 or supercharge it, mainly because I thought insurance was way too high on a gt. I checked into it, and insurance was only like $80 more every six months than the v6, and the gt was one year newer with the mach stereo. I opted for the gt and am happy with my decision. I saved a lot of time and effort in not doing an engine swap. I would suggest to anyone, just buy the gt!

but with one ticket your insurance will go up more on a GT than a v6. my insurance is $118/month on my v6 and $218/month on a GT. with one ticket, for expired tag.

What mods exactly DO you have to report to your insurance company? It was mentioned that you should report dropping a V8 in your V6 stang to the insurance, but what about other mods, such as nitrous or S/C? Espiecally frm Cobra232's standpoint, other mods may make you just as dangerous as having a V8. Anyways, anybody know if other mods have to be reported to the insurance company?

i had to have my car inspected by my insurance company every 12 months, don't know why, and they said as long as a ford v6 is under the hood they don't care. the last time i had this done the idle was super lopey and the car was shaking from a broken motor mount and the lady smiles and asks what is under the hood. she had it marked as a GT until i popped the hood.
