Well, while driving, I was about to shift. Suddenly the engine is roaring, and the tach needle is past 6000. It stayed at 6000 or so for probably about 3-5 seconds. What kind of damage can occur at 6000 rpm for that long? I noticed a power loss at the low rpm's after this happened, but no new noises or anything. It has 167,000 miles on it. And I have on occassion gone into the orange zone. Anyone who can help me out here? Just want to know what kind of damage can occur at these high rpm's. Thanks.
chec the throttle body linkage- the accelerator cable, cruise control cable... and like matt said, clean it out. it is probably clogged up somewhere so it stuck at WOT.
Ok, I can manage cleaning it out. Is there anything (noises, smoke) to be looking for after something like this happens, or should I even be worried. Thanks.
if you notice power drops in mid rpms, then you might have a problem. if any damage was done you should have noticed it almost right away on an engine with that much miles.
