Default Wheel Differential?

Hi i have a 2000 v6 automatic mustang and it needs to replace the wheel differential. Can i put it a GT one or do i need the whole rear Axle? I know that the gt has a tlock and its a 8.8 axle. i need help. Also can you tell me the advantages and disadvantages if there any.

Ok, so heres your options...

If you plan on modding more its best to get a GT 8.8 because its stronger than the 7.5 setup. You will need the entire rear end set up. Which usually comes with the axles and all that. If you can find a good price then id say do that.

Or, you could buy a new t-lock for the 7.5 setup you have now or DTT or Auburn posi.

well They sell me that section of the gearing for 49.99 and for the whole axle is 84.99. It does not matter if its a gt or v6, the price is the same, so would it be better if i install the gt whole 8.8 axle? is the same price and the gt has a tlock, instead of buying the tlock for the v6, whch it would save me money.
the current mods i have is a cold air intake and a dual exhaust.

and what mustang years can i take the rear end gearing or the whole axle?

you want the whole rear end set up. axles and all.
looks like this. (minus brakes)

and that price seems pretty low. Id go for it.

Wait, a shop said you need a differential? That makes no sense, there's nothing on it that can break.

What's wrong with your car?

noob

if you want to swap the whole rear end out of a GT you can do that, otherwise the stock v6 one is a 7.5" vs an 8.8. make sure the tlok is still good or get it rebuilt

If your not pushing 400whp then you don't really need a 8.8 IMO you can easily build a strong 7.5 just don't launch on slicks and you should be fine

yea i know that but it will save me money if i buy the GT axle, which it all ready has a tlock. if i order one for the 7.5 it is gonna cost me like 209.99 extra dollars.

and what years can i take the 8.8 axle of a GT. my car is a 2000 v6 automatic. and does it matter if the GT is auto and manual?
