Heh, I meant car polish after a wire wheel and assorted sandpaper grits. I already used a drill brush to file/grind it down to bare metal (aluminum?). It still has those little pits and crevices though. I think ill just go with a tasteful paint. I'm a better painter than a polisher anyway .

On a slightly different topic, what is the little piece that always rusts out. It sits in the middle of the engine bay, above the main drive wheel, and has a ~3 inch wide black "hat" with small hoses coming off it. On every picture I've seen, this piece is always rusted. Is there a reason it is made like that, or is it just poor construction/bad metal?

Thats the EGR valve, I believe, and it rusts because its one of the few bare steel pieces under the hood. I sandblasted and painted mine aluminum colored to match the intake.
