Default Fuel Pump??

hi,

so i was driving and my car died on the side of the road. i had it towed back, and the car turns over but no start. i got it started about a day later and it sputtered every so often, and while it sputtered it smelled like gas. So i changed the fuel filter and it was really dirty, the gas was brown in color coming out the fuel tank side of the filter. After the change the car still wont start. is the fuel pump clogged? Is there anyway to unclog it with out taking it out?

I can hear the pump turning on and i have checked the fuse under the hood

Thank you

have you checked CEL's? if it smells like gas then spark is the issue...
