Power windows off track, needs a new strip?
First off,let me say that I am impressed with this forum. I am on my second mustang and I just now found this site,a friend from work told me about this place,so I hope to gain quite a bit of knowledge from ya'll (yes I'm southern).
I have a 2000 convertible mustang I picked up from a used car lot for $1400 last november. I got it cheap because it needs some work done to it,nothing major, just some minor stuff. Right now I am trying to fix the driver side window. The glass has came off of the track. The car has power windows,so I took it to a local mechanic ( that speaks VERY little english) and he told me the strip inside is bad? Whats he talking about and can I replace this myself? Thanks in advance.

Are you sure the window is off track? How did you determine this? There is no "strip" whatever that means, I've fixed old windows before also (mainly fords and mopars) and I've never heard that term. Anyway, what is the window doing exactly? Did you take the door panel off and look what's going on? If it is the window regulator(the scissor looking mechanism inside equals "strip" I would assume) there a bitch to do, I've did one on a friends 94, no fun, but definitely doable(spring loaded so be careful). If it's just the window motor, that's a cinch, take off door panel, remove speaker, remove bolts for motor, all good. In a nutshell, more details are necessary.

it's been a few months since I've been inside the door of the car but i believe there are plastic bushings on the ends of the cross arms that hold them in the tracks. friend had then break off in his jeep and they said you have to replace the entire regulator assembly. i doubt ford will say anything different, usually once they fall off stuff is already damaged anyways so yeah, also the windows are held in with bolts rather than those flimsy clips so dont try to pull the windows out if u do replace them. on another note replacing them IS a DIY job, not hard at all just takes a lil patience
and welcome to the forums!!
