Red face heated oxigen sensor.

I have a question on removing these sensors. I was reading on how to clean the sensor with a propane torch. Do I need a special tool? I have a 98 and there is four of them. The codes I am getting po171, p0174. I had the fuel pump changed and then my tank was hanging half off. Stupid so called mechanic? Any way I will attempt this myself. Yes a women. But I changed the differential alone, so I will atempt tonight. Any info any one has for me?

IDK anything about cleaning the sensors, I always buy new ones. But, are you sure you don't have another problem? My first instinct is that something else is off since you are getting the same code on both banks. The odds of both sensors going bad at the same time is pretty low. You might have a bad PCV valve or a small leak letting unmeasured air get in, a bad / dirty MAF sensor or a host of other things.

Most auto parts chains will have a "loaner tool" which you can use to remove the sensors.

I'd bet your "stupid mechanic" left something disconnected....

I agree, when both sensors are throwing codes, it tends to mean something ahead of them in the system is messed up. Remove your IAC and MAF and clean them with some brake cleaner, preferably the O'Rielly's brand since it won't leave a film of any kind.
