Default Brake Question

My left front caliper is wearing the pad unevenly (inside pad). Looks like one of the pisons is pushing in on the pad harder then the other, causing the wear.

The sliders are fine, and I've changed out the pads as a temporary fix. The question is am I going to have to replace the caliper, or is there a work around to free up that piston?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Never seen a pad wear on one side more than the other. I have seen one pad wear more than the other side. Then it was a corroded piston. Sounds like one end of the pad isn't retracting enough since it is the inside pad. If it was me I'd bleed the system and check the piston while I was in there replacing the pad.

All I got. Sorry it's not much.

If I'm understanding the OP correctly, the inside pad is not wearing flat like it short. Its wearing the pad at an angle. If so, then I have seen this on my girlies '98. In my case, the problem was the slider was rusty so it didn't allow the caliper to slide in/out evenly or release from the rotor easily when letting off the brakes. Cleaned out the bore and the slider, greased it up nice and good and put it back together. No problems since (60k miles).

Another cause could be one of the pistons is stuck/restricted, so its not applying an even amount of pressure on the pad, or is not releasing when you let of the brakes. You can test this simply by removing the caliper and having a buddy LIGHTLY apply the brakes. Watch the pistons move. If one moves at a different rate then the other then the piston is stuck/restricted. Not sure how to fix it, but my first guess would be a caliper rebuild. Shouldn't be too hard. I've done it on a couple bikes over the years. Fairly easy if you have the factory service manual. Gives a step by step guide. The key is to get the proper seals and gaskets and take your time.

Good luck...
