Default Timing issue?

Hi ppl,

I just had a quick question about my 2000 V6 mustang, 5-speed. Recently my car has been making a pop sound in the exhuat, its pretty random when it happens but is most obvious when I am idle. It will either be a single pop or 2-3 or three quick ones close together, it almost sounds as if I have cams, but this is def not the case. I do have a full exhaust system on the car from manifold back. People are telling me its a timing issue, but I am not exactly sure. Thank you to anyone who can steer me in the right direction on how to solve the issue.

**I have replaced all spark plugs, and spark plug cables, as well as the ignition coil pack, new battery

Do they just sound like little bursts of air coming through or are they more like backfiring? If it's the former, than mine does it as well and I think that's just how some V6s sound.

The timing is controled by the computer so I dont think its a timing issue (but I could be wrong). It might be your exhaust. Do you have cats still? The cats could be cloughed (but you would notice a big hesitaion in the car), or it could be your mufflers.

I think it may also be your mufflers. Though, I raised my idle RPM and it's gone away.
