Default Cooling fan affecting A/C?

I have owned older cars, none of which had electric fans. My A/C stopped working and a friend of the family(a mechanic) said he could probably fix it for free if i bring it by his house, well he was lookin it over and realized the fan was dead. He told me when i get a new fan the A/C SHOULD work because of the relay. I just wanted to see if this is correct. I realy dont have alot of knowledge on all this electric crap, so sorry if its a dumb question.

Does the car cool while driving? I'm not sure how the Stangs system works but I've worked on several other cars that will cool while driving but not work well at slow speeds/idle due to the condenser fan not working.

Hard to diagnose over the internet without knowing hi/low side pressures

if your fan is dead replace it no matter what, the mustangs only have the one fan for cooling. if the A/C starts working again then all is good, it's possible that the computer would prevent the compressor clutch from functioning, I'm not a ford computer tech so i can't say for sure. i would more guess at a failed clutch first

That's what I was thinking Neo, I'm not sure if a pressure switch/computer would keep the clutch from kicking in...

But +1 to needing to replacing the fan

I also will not be of much help. How did he realize your fan is dead? Is it your fan motor ? Did he pull out a meter and verify voltage to it? Without checking to see if there is voltage to the motor how can you assume it is bad.

well i plan on replacing the fan any way i was just wondering if what he said is true about the cooling fan being linked to the A/C. the car started over heating when he was messin with the car so he got some wires and put one side on the fan and the other on the battery and the fan didnt kick on

Yes your fan is dead, well the motor anyway. The computer will keep the A/C off if it reads the car is to hot.
