Default Headlights

Just joined the Mustang society. Purchased a basic 1998 V6. Having trouble with the headlights. The high-beams work, but the low-beams don't. All other lights work. Are the low-beams on a separate circuit or fuse?

I like how headlights became a V6 specific topic.

Chances are the bulbs are shot. The first thing I'd do is pull them out. Check the bulb and the wiring into the back of the connector. Sometimes you'll find loose/worn out wires at the clip.

Not to steal the thread and to stay on headlights. Is there a cheap place to get the little slides that hold the head lights in place? Both mine are missing one and it's affecting my ability to aim them. They are too low and wont raise up. I have drive with them on high all the time to see more than 5 feet. And no one brights me.

+1 If the bulbs and connectors check out, get a volt meter and make sure that the light is getting power when in low beams (12 gauge light green & black wire is power for high beams, 12 gauge red & black wire is power for the low beams, 12 gauge black wire is ground for both). The high beams are on a separate circuit then the low beams that both get power through the multi-function switch in the steering column.

Good luck...

Thats what I thought too. :P

If you still have this problem when you change the bulbs then you could have a failing muli switch (The whole turn signal, wiper hi/lo beam unit.)

The wires pass through a pinch area and over time are cut.
