Default 8.8 rear end splines

I was reading in a 2007 issue of Car Craft magazine that the Mustang 8.8 rear had 28 splines until 1994 when the splines were increased. I have a 96 Mustang with 3.08 ratio and posi. Anyone know if this article is correct??
Thanks
Roy

I'm really not sure, I know some of the Cobras use 31 spline, not sure about all Cobras, but the GT's still used 28 spline

Off the top of my head? ...

94-04 V6 and GT = 28 spline SRA
94-98 Cobra = 31 spline SRA
1999 Cobra = 28 spline IRS
2000 Cobra R = 31 spline IRS
2001 Bullitt = 31 spline SRA
2001 Cobra = 31 spline IRS
03-04 Cobra = 31 spline IRS
03-04 Mach 1 = 31 spline SRA

Thanks! This rearend would be going in a 63 Tempest with 300-325 hp. It is a street machine. Any question whether this rearend would be strong enough. I assume it is but not sure.

With drag tires on the track you might be pushing it. Street tires should be ok

There are a few vids on YouTube of Mach 1's and Cobra's grenading their rear ends but usually these rear ends are very strong and will be fine at the power level that you are looking at.

How are you going to mount the 4 link in your 63?
Ever think of an IRS?

Thanks for the comments. I'm installing the rearend using ladder bars and coilovers.
