Ok thanks. I would like to have an extra engine laying around that I could slowly work on. It would be good for me to learn more and more slowly and slowly put it all together then one weekend swap the engine

4.2 with H/C/I and full bolt on will be in the same range, my friend has a 4.2 98 that will stay on the rear bumper on a 3v

edit:
I also have a set of ported 3.8 heads sitting here

Swapping heads would be a lot quicker and easier than porting.

Well that depends exactly what GT you're talking about. If you're talking about a 1974-1978 Mustang II GT/LX then yes you can, in fact you're already there. If you're talking about a 87-04 GT/LX then absolutely not (unless its an 87-98 auto GT then you'll get close if yours is a manual).

In short here are some numbers.

Your car stock makes 190 rwhp, that's about 160 rwhp at the wheels, with a lot of variables. We will leave torque aside at the moment. For comparison a 87-95 Mustang GT with an auto transmission will make around 165-175 rwhp. So can you match that number, absolutely, the difference is torque. Your car will only make around 180-190 rwtq depending on the dyno and how it's calibrated, the same 87-97 5.0 GT will make close to 260 ftlbs rwtq, that's the performance factor.

Torque gets you moving and determines accerllation, hp keeps you moving and determines top speed. That's why V8s are so much more powerful than V6s stock for stock.

Now I'm gonna assume you want to compare apples to apples which would be 03 V6 to 03 GT. In short it's gonna take a lot to match a GT in your year, think super charger, turbo, or nitrous to do so. Full bolt ons will only put your around the 165-180 rwhp mark depending on 50 thousand different variables and around 200 rwtq.
