Default remote stopped working

hello

Here is the story. Like 2 days ago the key-less entry remote stopped working; it happen just suddenly. It's a 01 mustang.

Anyone encountered this?
I've replaced the battery inside the remote, but still the same.
I might need a new remote? What I noticed also when it was working is that I could open the car from a fairly small distance away.

thanks

You might have got a bad battery, you may have bad connections inside the remote.

When you open the remote to replace the battery, you can clean all of the battery connections with a pencil eraser. The switches can be cleaned to, use real light pressure on them.

You can get a new remote for about $50.00 from the dealer.

No, I got a new remote from ebay and you can program it to your car yourself. The new remote should come with instructions. It's real easy.

Since my car only came with one remote I bought another so my wife will have one too.

Read through this thread. It has links to the programming instructions as well as pictures you'll need to locate the programming plug.

The OP has a 2001. There is no need to find any plug to jump any wires. You just sit in the drivers seat and program the remote to your car. It takes about 1 minute and you are done. Just follow the instructions that come with the remote. All you need is your key, the new remote and the instructions that tells you in order the steps of when to turn the key and when to push the buttons.

The link in the other thread provides instructions for all cars.

I see it now. You added this link in the thread which tells how to program any year car like you said.

When you said in post #6; "pictures you'll need to locate the programming plug." I didn't want the OP to think he has to find a programming plug to program his new remote.

All is well and I think Sabin knows what to do.
