Default car alarm problems?

Hey guys. Im a new member here. I recently bought a 98 mustang with the v6. When I first got it the car alarm worked fine but for some reason it just stopped. The light doesnt blink anymore, and then go off after a few seconds to ARM the alarm, once I open the door it just stay on and will stay on until I get in the car and put the key in. Also it doesn't beep when I lock it with the remote to indicate the alarm is on. I checked the fuses, and the dome light goes off so the door lock sensors are working. Any ideas what's going on ? I also disconnected the battery to reset the car, it still is staying on. Thanks guys

The factory shop manual shows 5 causes for a failure to arm. The troubleshooting chart covers about a page and a half, just for failure to arm. 7 pages for all alarm problems. But you really need the schematics to use the trouble shooting tree.

To start narrow down if it is the remote arming system or the entire anti-theft system.

try both of these procedures. These are the facory by the book procedures.

To arm without the remote:
Turn ignition off
open front door(20124)-alarm indicator lamp flashes
lock doors with power door lock switches(14028)- light goes to steady
close both front doors
wait approximately 30 seconds for alarm indicator lamp to go out. this indicates system is armed

to arm with remote:
turn ignition switch off
close both front doors. alarm indicator lamp is off
press LOCK button on the keyless entry remote transmitter
wait approximately 30 seconds for alarm indicator lamp to go out. this indicates system is armed

If sequence one works and sequence two does not then the issue is in the remote system. Which effectively eliminates almost 3/4 of the probable causes.

BTW everyone, I realize mustangs only have one door. the reference to front doors is directly from the Ford manual. I copy it verbatim for accuracy.

OP, The horn only sounds if you double click the lock button.
If you want to verify the system armed, do each procedure with the windows down. Then reach in and open the door, that will trip the alarm. This simulates someone busting as window and opening the door.

The system can only be disarmed by remote or by turning a door lock cylinder.
