Default 3.73 gears

I am gettin 3.73 gears for my car it is an 04 V6 automatic..will these be ok even though they arent 4.10's? whats the difference between the 2? I found 3.73 real cheap and includes crossshaft anything else needed to install these? and about how much is it to instal at a local shop without including the gears just labor.

Thanx

probably about 250-350 in labor for the gears. depends on the place (obviously). if i were you, i'd get the 4.10s. there's about a 200rpm difference between 3.73 and 4.10. when i went with 3.73, i thought i made a mistake and should have gotten 3.55. then i got used to them and kick myself in the **** all the time for not going with 4.10s. You also should buy a new T-Lok differential for another $180 or so while changing the gears. I would recommend going with 4.10s as nanaki posted if you haven't already bought the 3.73s.

The shop I use looked up labor..according to Mitchell on Demand, it takes 8 hours to do for an EXPERIENCED tech. Multiply that by your shop's labor rate. Mine is at $65.00 per hour...do the math.

if you dont want all ford parts, motive makes good gears and they have 3.90s which would work good.

WOW! the place i went to charged $500 out the door for everything. took them 45 minutes. that included the time the guy spent BS'ing with me and some other customers that came in.

wow thats rough, 250-350?! at school here we can get anything done to our cars service, mods, and etc... for only $7 plus the cost of parts. anyway... im lookin to get some new gears, i dont know a whole lot about em and i was wondering besides the actual gears emselves, is there anything else that i would have to purchase also?

If your doing gears, get a possi unit also. Cost is around two hundred for gears and two hundred for a t-lock or Auburn possi unit, but if you shop you can get them for less. With low gears and one wheel spin, you'll never get off the line fast. I have an auto trany with 4:10's, possi and wide rear tires and I jump off the line great now! It still breaks loose a little shifting to second, but it stays staight as an arrow and only chirps in third.
