Service Engine Soon light came on
I was driving homoe from work in my 2000 V-6 mustang and suddenly the "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Is that bad or could it be something simple? The car still runs and drives just fine but I was wondering what that usually means if the car is still running "normal (to me). If I disconnect the battery for 10 min. will it go out?
I'm just wondering if it needs looked at or if it's just simply trying to tell me to change the oil soon or something.

First, It wouldn't come on if something wasn't wrong. Take it to AutoZone or AdvancedAuto they can run a systems check on it and tell you exactly whats wrong in less than 2 minutes and it wont cost you anything. It could be something small. And i deff wouldnt disconnect the battery the light would just come back on after a few miles. Mine came on a while ago and it was just my fuel tank connecter moved not even 1/8 of an inch. like i said it could be something small or it could be something major. Get it checked out.

Pepboys still does the free checks... even here in CA. I had sensor out on my 98 for a while, just saw a little worse mileage, no other issues. Funny thing is, it would turn on and off on its own, and if reset, it would take at least 150 miles to turn on again. Anyway, get it checked, I know Pepboys still does the free check, or at least as of 3 months ago they did.

Definitively go to any auto parts store, get it checked, could be a simple as your gas cap not tight enough, or as far as a cam positioning sensor...could be something worse but thats the worst i can think of right now :P
