Well I just did a clutch job this previous weekend since I had to take the tranny out i thought i wight as well swap out the fluid. I only drained it and filled it up with Royal Purple and it already feels like it shifts smoother. I'm sure a flush would be alot better, but I think a drain would be just fine.

Flushing is for toilets. Drain and fill. If there is a trans cooler line, you can decouple that (top line to the radiator is usually suppl) and pump out the pan before dropping it, cleaning the magnet and changing the filter (if there is one).

+1. To make it less messy when you drop the pan, get a hand pump with a nice long tube and put it down the tranny filler neck tube. Suck out as much oil as you can before dropping the pan. Good luck...

I would just drop the pan, do the filter if there is one (i dont remember for the 4R70) and refill with the factory spec'd mercon ATF fluid.

If it were my car...
If it is shifting normal and fluid is fine I would just do a filter and fresh fluid.
But If fluid smells bad or looks bad - then filter, flush - filter, new fluid -
its more spendy but much less than trans rebuild.
(New fluid, filter, and peace of mind)

IMO, if it looks or smells bad, your all ready to late to the party and I would just let it be until you need a rebuild,

flushes are great if you do them every 30-50k as recomended when new, but if your over your better off just doing a drain and fill or just leaving it be if your much over 75k
