Is this a good choice for a replacement cam. What else would be needed, i'm not that well informed on my valvetrain[&:]

Yup! That's a good one! You might as well change the timing gears and chain while you're at it!

The upper timing gear it attached to your camshaft. You have to remove it and the chain to replace the cam. You should be able to get the set where you buy the cam. If not, your local auto parts store can get the set. The chain does stretch over time and can affect timing. It's just a good idea to replace since you'll have them off anyway. The set isn't that expensive. Unless you go with true double roller. That's not really necessary.
