Question Got a new toy and have some questions

Hey guys,

I just bought myself a nice little 96 Mustang with a 3.8L V6 engine in it and a 5 speed transmission for $700....Yes it actually runs and no its not written off.

Can anyone tell me what transmission this is for SURE?

As far as i'm reading the V6's used a "normal" T5...

Ok another question... what rear end is in these V6ers and how much power will they take before exploding?

Its a 7.5" rear end.

Its an open diff, you can abuse the hell out of it and it should be fine under full bolt ons and power packs.

but a one legger sucks so upgrade the rear end if you plan on having a lot of fun with the car.

Congrats on the score btw and welcome to the forums.

Hmm only a 7.5".. problem with that is that i want to put a 429 BBF into this car over the winter so i guess it's gonna need a 9" rear end installed.

A 7.5" can be built bullet proof, as can an 8.8", no need for expensive 9" rear ends unless your trying to play the "I have the biggest Stick" game.

btw, unless that car will never see the street I wouldnt do such a swap.
Yes they have been done and there are even a couple kits out there for it but unless you live in an area that doesnt enforce fed laws you will be going against fed laws which would mean never being able to enjoy it on the street.

I'm up in Alberta Canada, no emissions laws here and you can pretty much do what you want to a vehicle.

Anyhow, can you point me in the direction of how to make this 7.5" stronger?

Summit Racing, American Muscle, Jegs, really any parts place that caters to Ford should help.

There are a few rear end build ups here if you search around.

My next question is whats a better option... boost the crap out of this 3.8L or swap it out for a 351W and C6 trans? (obviously need a new k member)
