Default Push button ignition and killswitch

Alright, I'm new to these forums, but I got my first mustang, and I love it a lot! It's base model 2004 40th anniversary edition. I was looking into installing a push button ignition, and a kill switch that has to be engaged for the push button to work. I was also looking into replacing the headlights/dashboard lights with a switch, along with the hazard lights. I was hoping to use Plasmaglow fighter jet switches for the killswitch, lights, and hazard lights, along with a plasmaglow momentary push button activator for the ignition. But, I really don't know what I'm doing, wiring wise, so I was wondering if anyone has done something like this, or could offer me any advice. Thanks in advance!

That's helpful! I'm not necessarily looking to do away with the key though. A very vague Instructable "shows" a way to wire a push button and a killswitch, but it still requires the key. I'm not looking to disable my pats, and use a magnet, and it will still be as anti theft as it currently is, because you still have to insert the key, and turn it two notches to activate the power. It's all slightly confusing, so that's why I came here for help.

Maybe someone could help make sense of that? And it really doesn't help with the switches for my lights, and hazard lights. (I truly hate the placement of the push-pull switch for my headlights, and the dimmer is useless, and I also can't stand the placement of the hazard lights button, which is on top of the steering column.) So, I figured if I'm disassembling my dash to install a toggle and a momentary push button, I might as well add in two more matching toggles with some functionality

Okay that's definitely closer to what I want to do. I should be able to handle that part now, I just need to find a good looking momentary switch. Now I need to tackle the killswitch installation. In the Instructables, the switch is used to power the ignition, so if the button is pressed while the toggle is disengaged, the engine will spin, but nothing will actually turn on. Or that's what I've gotten from this so far. The lights and hazard lights shouldn't be too hard, I should just be able to cut the wires for each, and solder them into their respective switches, right?

Yeah, that switch is actually really nice looking! It looks a lot like the plasmaglow buttons, but, the only problem about those is that I don't know if they're momentary. But I'll definitely consider that one. I guess the next thing to do now is order the switches and buttons, head over to my neighbor's house (He rebuilds cars for a living, so I figure he could help me out), open up my dash and install the switches. I was also looking into a digital readout gearshift, but that comes from American Muscle and comes with instructions, so that's that. Anymore tips or suggestions?

only suggestion i have (well request) is that you do a write up on how you do it.
i thought about this alot lately...i would only do it without the key being used though.
just seems to defeat the purpose if you still have a key to turn.
but cool none the less.
good luck on your project and report back please.

I'll definitely report back, and hopefully I can start on this right away. It's really just to look cool since you do still have to have the key, but, with mods I've seen that don't require a key, it is either really expensive and much more labor intensive, or very easy to steal. The key can be gotten rid of once you bypass the security, the locking wheel, and things of the sort. For example, one of the people that put in a push button ignition drove 4 hours to a custom shop that cut his key, put it in the ignition, and then covered it. He had a fob installed so that when his sensor gets near his car it automatically unlocks, and he just presses a button and it's on. But, that was a very very expensive mod. Based on the parts that I finally decide on, if I really wanted to, I could do this for under $20 bucks. The ignition button should be relatively easy now, so the only difficult parts are going to be the toggles, but I'll report back once I've started, and I'll try to make a detailed account on how to do it.

Officially leaning towards this.

http://www.moddedmustangs.com/forums...on-system.html

Few problems though. The included pictures are no longer included, the information on the security is iffy, and it seems like it'd be a lot of guess work..
But, it is totally keyless, which is seeming like a better idea to me, because it's much less novelty-ish than my original idea. The guy that posted that form is seemingly a genius, and I'll be really surprised if I can even come close to that. He refers to disabling the PATS with a series of relays that are disabled by his keyless entry. I'd be interested if anyone can clear up that forum a little bit.

But as of this point, I'm scrapping my idea, and following his, and going keyless. The only difference will be that I'm replacing his two constant toggle buttons with two constant toggle switches, because I personally like the look better.
