Default Controls on steering wheel

I recently took my car on a somewhat road trip and this was the first time I could use cruise control, but when I pressed the button my car did not stay at the same speed. The other buttons on my wheel do not work either. Could this just be a simple plug in problem or a serious issue? Any help would be great

This may sound like a stupid question but did you read the directions on how to use the CC? I ask because I had to do that on my 2012 Focus a few times before I could get it to work for me.

That is not a dumb question. I had made sure I read it before hand
