Default 3.73s?

Alrighty, so i have 127k miles on my v6 5speed. Flowmaster true dual and CAI. My tires are bf goodrich g-force pro comps 2. Anyways my car only has those few mods, but I think i want to go with 3.73s in my car now. It will pretty much be my last mod so i was wondering if 3.73s will be the acceleration i am looking for?
This is my daily driver and im not looking to race it on the tracks, but the gears are there "just to have" for a little fun every once in a while. Im wondering if the 3.73s are gonna be enough for the "fun" or if it is only a slight difference?

The guy at a local shop said i dont need the tlok if im not planning on racing or doing anything like that, does that sound right? I never peel out my tires or do crazy things like that. I only get a heavy foot once in awhile.

Thoughts?

If your not gonna get a t-lok I wouldn't really go over 3.55, your gonna have to baby 3.73's with an open diff, will be aggravating.

Didn't even think about rain/ect... That would be a nightmare without traction control at least with 3.73's

Well put it this way, with a consistent driver 3.73s on a 99-04 Mustang will drop quarter mile times by about 0.3 second. Hope that helps. And no, 4.10s don't show a significant gains usually due to traction issues.

His question isn't which gears to get, it's can he get away with 3.73's with his stock open diff.

Ahh...didn't read that....but I'll answer that by saying this...if you half *** a project then expect half *** results. Don't mean to sound mean, but it's the truth.

I know this is a little outside your question, but I'm not going to upgrade my gears until I upgrade to the 8.8. Many cheap mods out there to increase the break away torque and stronger all around. Only like $100 at the junk yard to boot. I think the stock open dif and 3.73 would be a PIA for the reasons others have have stated though. One wheel peel doesn't feel cool at all, and you'll get alot more of it with the new gears.

That being said, the 3.73 gear set is alot of fun! My GT had them and I loved the seat of the pants HP increase and RPMs never got too crazy.

It is all relevant to the input of your right foot. It does not matter what you have for traction. I can make my car go all over the road with wheel spin if I want or I can controll it. With or without a locking differential these cars take some care when accel and turning in the rain. I'd say to keep it on a budget and stick the cheapest 3 73 in there you can. Make sure it is set up right so it doesn howl or cause bearing failures and enjoy the new snappier 2nd and 3rd gear pulls you will have. Just dont stand on it from a stop or in the wet.
