what's the best way to go about replacing my tensioner in my 99 v6 stang?

Unbolt it and put the new one on.

what tool I need to use to take it out? it like a hexagon shape tool, not a screw driver but something different? help me out I have a 99 3.8l Stang.

I agree with Daehawk. If you can’t tell what type of fastener it is, then you should probably have someone do it for you. Not to mention, tensioner is reverse-threaded (lefty-tighty, not lefty-loosy).
