Default Car is jerking back/forth

Okay, so I'm having a real problem with my car right now. Well first of all, it's a 2000 Ford Mustang V6. My mom bought it in 2003, stopped driving it in 2007. It just sat in the garage and collected dust until she gave it to me last year. It's my first car.

Idk what the cause of the problem is. Whenever I'm driving and come to a complete stop, I can hear the car ummm idk how to put it, it sounds like it's about to cut off, the engine sounds funny, like it's giving up. Whenever I press on the gas the car doesn't move the way it should. I press my foot on the gas and the car starts to move SLOOOOOOOWLY and starts jerking back and forth like it wants to cut off, it's not getting up like it's supposed to. Whenever I press on the gas all the way it still lags. The car just feels like it's dragging through traffic.. feels like i'm driving through mud its so annoying Only way I can get it back to how it's supposed to run is by pulling over, turning the car off and back on again, and even when I do that in about 5-10 minutes it STARTS AGAIN

Someone please help me, anyone else ever have this happen to their car?

Well since the car has been sitting around for a while, you really should have emptied what was in the gas tank out before you used the car. But I would have to agree that it probably needs a tune up. I would also get an oil change, check the air filter. And maybe throw a little bit of fuel injector cleaner in your next tank of gas just for good measure. Good luck with your new car!

Went and got it checked out. Turns out I need a new fuel pump and a fuel filter. They charged me $75 for a diagnostic test but wanted $665 for the fuel filter/fuel pump installation! I'll pass. I threw a new fuel filter on the car already. That was super easy. Theres a guy in my neighborhood who's good with cars, he's gonna charge me $80 for him to install a new fuel pump so I hope my baby runs well after this. I miss her

That price they gave you must have been for the pump and labor. It is only a two hour job going by the book time. Also when you drop the tank to do the pump, do yourself a favor and replace the filler neck grommet.
