The only thing I can recommend is to look at what some of us have done. And ASK us! The only stupid question is the one you DON'T ask.

Ok basics. First off you want to let as much air flow through the engine. This means a Cold Air Induction kit. You can get one off e-bay relatively cheap. Just remember, when dealing with someone on e-bay, look at thier NEGATIVE feedback. Bomz is a good one. You can pick one up for less than 50 bucks. Second to the flow equasion is exhaust. There are a few ways to go. You can go with a quasi dual setup using your original Y-Pipe. Or you can go with true duals with no mid-pipe, or a H or X pipe. You won't gain much in HP with a mid-pipe, but it sounds a lot better. I got the X-Pipe. Then the mufflers. I like the Flowmaster 40 series. But there's magnaflow, Borlas..and a few others. If you go to the Sound Clip gallery here in the V6 forum, you can hear how mine sounds. Next I recommend reduction pulleys. This does NOT add HP, it TRANSFERS HP from driving your accessories(A/C, P/s, Alt) to the rear wheels. I have 42% reduction pulleys and that was suposed to transfer around 15 HP to the rear wheels. Then there's rear end gearing. Stock a 6 drives only the right rear wheel. And has 3.25 gears(I think). I'm adding a T-Lok unit and 4.10 gears. The T-Lok turns the rear end into a posi unit. Both rear wheels are driven. This adds traction, and stability. The gears will make it go faster, but you do lose a little top end speed. But you get to the top speed a lot faster. That's the basics. Now, if you have any questions, please ask.

I'm driving an auto too. And HELL YES the gears are worth it. IF you want to go fast that is.
With the exhaust, not much diference in any of the setups HP wise. But if you want the best sound, the X or H pipe is the way to go. Some prefer the H, some, like me prefer the X. The way I see it, with the X pipe, there's a smoother path for the exhaust gas to flow in. Look at the X vs H..H has right angles. X doesn't. It's just personal preference.

You can but 2 flowmasters, about 80 bucks EACH, then take them to an exhaust shop and get them installed. Each shop will charge what they want to. So shop around. You can buy an X or H pipe, or have the shop make you one, like I did. I like custom things.

Dude, I have a K&N CAI..It's called a FIPK2. I live in rain forrest central. Northern Cali. I have no probs. For one thing, the filter is coated in special oil. For another, mine isn't under the fender. It sits where the stock box USED to sit. If you're still scared, just buy the K&N replacement filter. It goes in the airbox. It will at least increase air flow. AND you never replace it. Just clean it every 50k....yes I did say 50k miles.
