Default Traction control switch?

I just bought a 2001 mustang and do not understand the traction control switch even after reading in the manual.
Is it suppose to be lit all the time .I couldnt turn my switch off the other day it stayed lit, yet some days I can turn it off

Lit means that the traction control is off. If it ever turns off by itself look at your dash. Does the brake light come on at the same time, or the abs light? If there is ever an issue with your brake system the traction control will default to off.
