Default URGENT - PLEASE HELP - Heater Question...

Ok. I hope there is someone here who can help me with this one cause I live in Canada and it is -25c (-13f) here today.

The heater controls (or possibly the heater itself) seems to be dying 1 setting at a time and as of now I only seem to have the MAX setting working.

Since I bought the car (about 3 and a half months ago) the LO setting never did seem to work / blow air and nor did the first dot to the right but up till today the second dot (Ill call it medium) was working but it just seemed to die while I was on lunch and now again, all I seem to have left is the MAX setting that blows air / heat.

Can anyone tell me what the likely culprit is here? Id sure hate to lose all of the heat settings since winter is here and here where I live it will be here till mid May at least.

Also... I am able to change the setting from window to mix or vents or whatever with no issues so it does not seem to be a vacuum leak issue as I read about in this thread here...

Again... Any swift reply on this would be greatly appreciated and a life saver!!!

Please advise...

When you say it doesn't blow hot air do you mean the there is no air flow at all or that the air blows but is not hot?

if you mean that there is no air blown, that's the blower motor resistor. I don't recall where it's located on an 00 v6 but it's usually either by the motor or behind the controls.

If there is air blowing and it's just not hot then that's the heater control valve. That will either be in the engine compartment by the firewall or under the dash somewhere controlled by vacuum lines.

No... I mean its not blowing ANY air / heat at all on any other setting other than MAX as of right now. Blower Motor resistor you say possibly? Hmmmm... Is that an easy fix at all? Is it something like a fuse? Sorry for the dumb question but I have no idea about that kind of thing...

Ok... So I did some googling / youtubing and it seems to be the Blower Motor resistor as you mentioned and it seems to be located under the dash on the passenger side of the car. Seems like an easy fix as long as I can find the part...

Thanks for the quick reply. I just hope it lasts on MAX for a little while till I can get the part...

Since it's not blowing ANY air except for MAX now (and it has progressively lost other speeds), I'm almost 100% certain that's the problem (blower resistor). They are pretty common and your local parts store should carry it.

Once the resistor starts to go out, it will die out pretty quickly.

Easiest way to test it is to locate it and get a Volt-Ohm meter. Unplug the harness from it and do a quick resistance check. If it's open (no resistance found) then you found your problem. If you want to be safe, buy the resistor, test out your Volt-Ohm meter on it first to get an idea for what the readings should be and know what contacts you need to touch. Then test yours to see what yours shows. If you find your resistor is fine, you can return the new one since it wasn't installed!

Thanks for the info my friend. Like I said... I never did have LO or the first setting since I purchased the car and it lasted 3 months plus with the second dot setting and MAX and now it just has MAX so as long as it works ok till the weekend then I should be good.

Thanks again Derf!!! Much appreciated!!!
