Yea its the intake manifold, aka fuel injection system. Now the reason the 99-04s have more power than the 94-98s is not just in the split port system, the 99-04s have a larger throttle body, higher number fuel injectors, a better ecu system, and bigger gears. The split port is the thing that makes the biggest difference. Reason being is that a split port system shoots 2 times as much air into the engine as a single port, more air, bigger fuel injectors, better hp.

Umm it is not just the intake manifold. its the heads too. and it does not cost $1000 in parts because i have already purchased the parts and it cost me $400 for all of it. and the shop i used to work at is only charging me $500 to do the swap plus a cam swap. so i dont know where you get your numbers.

Or you could go scrounge for an F150 crank and get it for the price to install the crankshaft, instead of the price of the kit and then the price to install it.
