Starter Problem?
Hey, I found my shunt. It's 50MV = 150A.
I think this will be robust enough to test the amps the starter is calling, and the battery is providing, at least for a second or two.
But, I forgot how to use it with a DMM. My meter reads 200m, 2000m, 20V, 200V, 1000V.

Can you post a pic of it? Should have current in and out.. disconnect the battery plus .one side goes to battery plus the other to the positive battery cable. There should be two output leads for the meter...or you can hook the meter leads to the current in and out. Use the 200 milli volt range . It doesn't matter which you hook the plus meter lead to. If you read about 75 mv should be 300 amps. The shunt may only be rated at 150 amps...typically can take 400 for a second or two.
Okay, it's fixed!
Tried to jump, one last time to rule out a battery issue. No dice. just a clunk.
Took starter out, took it to auto parts store, and the starter spun up just fine.
Just to rule out the battery again, I bench tested at home, using jumper cables and screwdriver, and it spun up fine
Just to rule out the wiring of the car (from battery to starter), we installed the starter, without it bolting in, and it spun up fine.
Okay, lets bolt the starter in, and it spun up fine and started the car
WTF?
Anywho, it started. But, the radio didn't work, WTF!
So, with the DMM, we go through all the fuses, and find that the fuse for the radio blue for somereason.
All is well.
Maybe a wire on the starter was loose. Maybe banging the starter around to remove it got it to move again.. I don't know. If it stops working again, the starter is coming out and a new one going in... and I'll report back here.
Thanks for all the help... the problem was "unknown", and it fixed itself.
Quality time with the son though!
