Arrow 1998 v6 fuel pump

Hello everyone, I've got a 1998 v6 5speed coupe. I was looking into replacing the fuel pump (I believe the check valve is bad) and I found out that 1998 stangs were a special case where ford was transitioning into a return-less system. So while the 1997 can owners can pick up a nice walbro pump for ~$110, I'm stuck paying $200 for the special pump with an entire new basket...

My question is, has anyone bought a pump for a 1997 and been able to physically fit it into the original basket on the 98's? I know the 1998's also used a resistor to change the voltage to the pump, which will shorten the life of a 97 style pump. I believe I can simply take the resistor out and bypass it so it always gets full voltage.

do you think this will work? has anyone tried it before? I'd rather not run a 255 lph pump in the car since I don't think I'll ever need that much fuel, I wanted to go with a 190 or 155 lph pump, which I cant find for the 1998's...

Delphi pump is available for a '98 V6 at Rockauto.com for $55 + shipping. If you are running a stock fuel system, there is no need for a specialty high output pump. I wouldn't basterdize the fuel supply system if I didn't have to - problems will leave you stranded.

That's all fine, however I have another car I use to get around, and I'm looking to upgrade the pump to a 155 or 190 lph. I will need more fuel in the somewhat near future, so this isn't a problem that will be fixed by replacing with a stock part. in essence I'm trying to convert the fuel system that of a 1997 stang, and upgrade the pump at the same time. I just don't want to buy a 255 lph pump which is about the only upgrade I can find specific to my car

There shouldn't be much of a difference from 97 to 98. They were both return style fuel systems.

The pump doesn't know what year the car is in as long as it plugs in correctly.

since there doesn't seem to be a lot of information on the subject, I will probably buy the 1997 pump, and do either a write-up or a video of how to make it work. You better believe that if I buy the pump its going into the car... lol
