Default DIY tail light sequencer for less than $10

I started doing a prototype for a low cost diy tail light sequencer using 4 pcs of delay on relay units from ebay. Each unit costs $1.65 and you only need 4 to sequence the 4 lights out of 6 (the 2 innermost light is on initially)

here's the unit from ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/371016953107?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
here's a video:

and pics of the unit and wiring for one side:

Neat project, I like it. We need more DIY projects like this.

I really hope you either sell those or do a detailed write up, because those are awesome and I need them.

Can you change the speed (Timing) of how fast or slow the sequence goes?

Edit: Nevermind, saw the link and the word 'Adjustable' timer

there's a variable cap that you can adjust using a flathead screw to speed up the ON time. I'll be updating this thread once I made progress. Unfortunately the weather is very cold this week that I don't feel going to a junkyard to get a flasher relay to tweak the timing. I might probably build some for others (if this unit is reliable enough) that are interested, of course for those who dare to cut wires.. I wouldn't charge market price

the seller on ebay discounts the unit if you buy more than 3 but it takes 2 weeks shipping from china to kansas city..

How do they act when you press and hold the brake?

since the flasher relay is inactive during braking, it will initially do a sequence and then remain lit while braking.

it needs the flasher relay to be active to have that sequence effect.
