Default 01 V6 Rear End Swap

Hey guys, new to the forum. So I have a 2001 Ford Mustang V6 that doesn't have an LSD. I am wanting to go to my local salvage yard and pull off the diff from a GT. Is that all I need or will I need the axels as well? Has anyone done this before? Also, what else do I need to grab from the donor car? Just diff or diff and axels or diff, axels, knuckle, everything?

P.S. Another bonus for swapping the rear end will be a future 31 spline upgrade. Just need an LSD for now though. Thanks in advance!

If you plan on keeping your car I would spend the money on s Detroit trutrac and regearing your current rear end, it's lighter and you won't be swapping someone else's headache into your car

Ok. To answer all you questions, to use the LSD from a GT in a v6 you will need the entire rear end assymbly, not just the diff. a GT rear is a 28 spline 8.8 and the v6 rear is a 28 spline 7.5

Axles and brakes are the same for the v6 and GT and I have no idea what you are referring to as knuckles.

Knuckle is just another word for hub. Anyways, so what you are saying is that I need the whole diff and axels? That's it? No problem with that! I'm excited! Thanks for the fast feedback!

I do plan on keeping my car for forever, God willing. The main reason I want to swap out my rear end is because it will be cheaper going to the junkyard and pulling one off then it would be to just buy an LSD. They guy running the salvage yard is very kind and cheap on pricing. The added benefit to replacing the rear end now is that it will be much easier to upgrade in the future. Like I said I wanna upgrade to a 31 spline setup when I look into supercharging or turbocharging. Haven't decided what I wanna do just yet. Probably supercharge it with a ken and bell from a cobra. Supersixmotorsports makes a mint adapter for my engine. Plus I want reliability vs massive horsepower, but I want enough that I won't be bored in my daily. So it is settled. I will go down and pick up the rear end as soon as my income tax comes in and then I will report back once installed and let you guys know how it went! Thanks for all the help guys!

Unfortunately the salvage yard wanted too much for a GT rear end. So I will be welding the diff.

Do NOT weld your rear end. You dont want a locked rear 100% of the time. The car will not be able to turn correctly.

Don't weld it unless it's a dedicated drag car, transported to the drag strip via trailer.
