convertible top latch loose

convertible top latch loose
I'm looking at buying another convertible at a bargain price for restoration. Is there an easier way to fix the top latch without removing the header portion (or where the latch is) of the top. I searched and this was caused by the plastic guide that deteriorated/crushed/gone and causing it to come loose when locked. I was wondering if somebody did a simpler fix for this issue. I've also seen a youtube video where the guy just put a bolt and a wing nut to lock it in place.. kind of a redneck fix for me but it works.
We drove the car with the latch loose and it's bad and scary, we have to tie it with wires to clamp it down temporarily.

ok to answer my question, went to the junkyard 3 convertibles and 1 is in a-ok condition. The rest of the convertible has a missing top and broken springs and clamps.
there's no way to put the clamp back in without removing the header portion of the top, that means removing the metal trim held by small torx screws, getting the staples out and making sure that when the staple is removed the plastic material where it's stapled into will not break (it's plastic and it might be already brittle and rotten, it's also riveted to the bow) I'll post pics when I'm ready to tackle this fix. Luckily the plastic guides and spring on the junkyard top were still ok, unlike the rest..

it turns out that the pin was just missing, so the hook doesn't have anything to latch into. Found the part for that and it's back to working condition. No need for me to tear apart the top.
