Default Extend Automatic shifter

Has anyone ever tried to extend the length of the shifter in the automatic Mustangs? My shifters location isn't the most comfortable to reach for. And in various pictures, it seems the manual shifters seem to be somewhat longer and in a more comfortable position to hold. Has anyone modded the auto shifters at all?

its not a handle, you shouldnt be holding it while driving, shift it into gear and let it go.

That I would agree with you fully. But I was saying that since it is so much farther forward than other cars I've driven (such as my mothers 07 convertible, and my old 94 T-Bird LX), the shifter on my stang is not as comfortable to reach for when I do need to shift. The shifters on the other Fords I've driven just seem to be in just the right place to comfortably work the shifter when needed.

Is your seat adjusted properly? With your butt tucked into the corner of the seat and your back flat against the seat-back, your outstretched arm should still be able to rest your wrist on the top of the steering wheel without leaning your body forward. Does that place the shifter within reach?

I didn't do this to my auto shifter but this is one mod for my radio. We all know that there's no steering controls for the radio and it's way farther (and up) than the shifter. I just superglued a black plastic rod to the **** and no sweat I could turn it on/off/adjust volume easily without moving my butt or back

you might be able to do the same stuff but something tougher (like clamp on bolts)

just too ashamed to show pics of it..

Holy crap, I don't drive like that lol. I can't imagine thats even legal haha.

Hey man it works is the important thing. I just kinda miss being able to have my elbow on the center console armrest and being able to just rest my hand on the shifter.

Those Thunderbirds were set up very nicely; they really catered to the driver. My '96 was one of the most comfortable cars I've ever driven.

Being an automatic, I never needed to use the shifter except during low-speed parking lot maneuvers, so I was already moving my body a little to check my blind spot anyway. Being able to rest my hand on the shifter while driving was just an added bonus.

I miss that Bird. I'd actually give up my Mustang to have her back. Everyone around here has Mustangs, Camaros, Corvettes, etc.. Having a V8 T-Bird was nice, knowing that I had something a little bit different. She had the 4.6 SOHC under the hood. Not overly fast, but was an awesome cruiser. Everyone looked at her as another old Grandma getter.... until I started her up. She had a REAL nice rumble with dual exhaust and no mufflers lol. Mine was an automatic too, but the placement of the shifter and all of the controls were just so well thought out and placed. I really miss that car. I only have one real picture of her, and it was only taken with an old flip phone I had at the time.
