Default Value?

My uncle is very sick and needs to go into long term care. Unfortunately he will need to sell his Mustang. It’s a 2002 V6 convertible automatic. He hasn’t been able to drive it for six months, so the battery is dead and I don’t have the mileage just yet. I know he didn’t drive it that much so my best guess right now would be somewhere between 30 and 60,000 miles. I’ve never seen a 20 year old car with such immaculate paint. I don’t even see a swirl mark in it. In this kind of condition, is KBB a good estimate for the value?

Sorry about your uncle, I hope for the best.

KBB would be a great place to get an idea. I would also look around craigslist and local listings to get a feel for what you could get. You might get more or less in other states depending how many are around. I have the same year with 167k on it. The fact that has 100k less is insane and definitely a bit more rare.

Try your best not let it sit if you can. Warm her up once a week and just try to move it around a little. Sitting is never good for cars unless you prepare for it. Old gas and other fluids could wreak havoc on such a pristine Mustang. Engine could seize over time, etc. Keeping it in a garage is a great start though. Good luck.

Thanks for the message. My brother is in CT and will charge the battery to get it running. He sent me these pictures today. The car has only 43,419 miles on it! And I know we need to remove that “performance” chip, lol. I looked up the Kelley blue book and range is $5600-6200. I don’t know, I’m I out of line thinking this is a $10k car due to the showroom condition and low low miles?

10k isn't unreasonable but it would be a hard sell. Its the type of thing do you want it gone quick or do you have some time and space to wait. 10k isnt priced to sell but you could find the right buyer....who knows how long that could take though. The fact that there's a bunch of aftermarket stuff in there could hurt the value. But again, its down the the right buyer for the price you want or price it sell. You don't know if you dont try, no harm in posting around and see what bites you get.

This is a tough one- its in amazing shape, low miles, and (mostly) original. But sadly, the V6/auto isnt the most desirable. But it would be a great weekend/summer car for somebody. Perhaps submit it to one of the auction sites? I agree a bit with the above about the aftermarket bits. Some wont hurt (the tinted tails, speedster cover), but the chrome fender bits would deter me from it.
