3.9l Qs
ORIGINAL: Clif Brohn
SCT you say? OK, this was good idea. getting a lot of input, haha. My ultimate goal will be having the 3.9l running around 17PSI from a centri. super, new trans. and rear end. Then I am going to keep it in my family for a while(hey, it might just be a V6 Stang, but Ford's only making a 40th Anni. once. Besides, its a nice car.) Any more manufacturer suggestions are welcome, for super/turbo chargers and tuning programs alike. I'm shopping with a vague idea of what I want to do, not looking for specifics, haha. I see a LOT of potential from my pony.

also justin at www.vmptuning.com is about the best V6 tuner out there and i believe makes TT kits too. i have a SCT chip custom burned by justin and it needed no tweaking after a dyno run to check A/F
here is a quote from VMP site
Our TT V6 Makes 450rwhp/475rwtq on 100 oct race gas, 17psi, and the stock motor with our TT kit!

i would get a dyno tune instead of a hand held, that way everything is tuned correctly

Yeah, I'm ordering a Diablo tuning chip after I pick what super/turbo I want on my Pony so they can program it for the charger. I just needed some manufacturers as I wasn't able to find a Vortech for the 3.9l, and haven't cchecked the likes or Eaton or KB yet. Anyone else? Anyone know of any turbo-charger manufacturers? BTW, thanks Mustangman.

2) For the person that asked, the 3.9 and 3.8s are IDENTICAL except for the stroke. I think 03Yellowpony mentioned the crank is slightly different. I can't remember if it's the crank or the rod that give is the slightly longer stroke.
3) because of the slightly longer stroke, the TQ is slightly higher on the 3.9 than the 3.8L (I think +10tq)
Clif,
Looking for parts for your 3.9L like I am? I did order my MAC CAI from Autobadges (support our sponsors) but I found another place (website) rpm-mustang.com.
Ordered the shorty ceramic coated headers for less than I could find anywhere. They have everything for the V6 mild to wild engine mods and anything else.
Also, great customer service and quick responce to email questions (and on a Sunday).
I'm building my 04 3.9L one piece at a time as to NOT attract attention from the banker (wifie).
Going the CAI, dual exhaust route first. The 3.9 has 193 stock hp. I figure when the first round of mods are done it will be some place around 250+- hp.
Then I'll see how everthing works and move on to the second round.
Anyway, I think you were saying that we should keep in touch about parts. This is a great forum to do that. Doesn't matter if you're 3.8, 3.9, 4.0 or 5.0. These folks on this forum try to help out.

^^
A new V-6 was available in 2004--a 3.9L OHV V-6. The engine replaced the 3.8L V-6, but did not offer an increase in power, weight, or fuel efficiency

The Pony package didn't include the running pony decals along the rocker panel like it did in '03. The Pony package included a raised hood scoop (like the GT), chrome 16" wheels, and black "MUSTANG" bumper inserts. Mustang V6 was available in Black, Competition Orange (new for '04), Dark Shadow Grey,
Yes this is the one I have. Dark Shadow Grey like a spirit..lol
