Default 3.9l Qs

Hello, I'm new on the forums(but not new to motor vehicels or Ford, haha) and just wanted to say hi as a first time member! As for the topic, I have recently come into posession of a 2004 Ford Mustang! Its nothing special, just a nice little good looking car, with teh 3.9l V-6. I have some questions about the mototr though:

1: Is it just the old 3.8l bored out a little? If so, does it have teh same head gasket poblems as the 3.8l? Is it worth putting money into, via performance parts?

2: What are some good centrifugal super chargers or turbo charger manufacturers that make super/turbo chargers for the 3.9l V-6?

Thanks for any replies! I t is appreciated.

ford fixed the head gasket problem when it put on PI heads and the split-port in 99, no problems with the 3.8 or 3.9 and it is capable of handelling 6000 rpms, a good centrifical supercharger is a vortech

http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/

make sure you get a dyno tune and get all your rev limiters changed to 6200 rpm, and get rid of your top speed limiter and everything like that, for computer parts though, you need specific parts, ford changed the computer in 2004 for all 6ers.

Yeah, I'm ordering a Diablo tuning chip after I pick what super/turbo I want on my Pony so they can program it for the charger. I just needed some manufacturers as I wasn't able to find a Vortech for the 3.9l, and haven't cchecked the likes or Eaton or KB yet. Anyone else? Anyone know of any turbo-charger manufacturers? BTW, thanks Mustangman.

For the 04, I would HIGHLY recommend the SCT tuner. I know Diablo is good, hell I have a DiabloSport tuner, but they don't make the tuner for the 04. You don't need to change the chip, just reprogram it to what you want to do. The big reason for using a tuner instead of a chip is gears. When, and I do say WHEN you change rear end gearing, the tuner can reprogram the speedo for the new gears. Well, it can also turn off the speed limiter, reset rev limiters, reprogram the tranny's shift pressure(adding an electronic shift kit), shift points and a LOT more.

SCT you say? OK, this was good idea. getting a lot of input, haha. My ultimate goal will be having the 3.9l running around 17PSI from a centri. super, new trans. and rear end. Then I am going to keep it in my family for a while(hey, it might just be a V6 Stang, but Ford's only making a 40th Anni. once. Besides, its a nice car.) Any more manufacturer suggestions are welcome, for super/turbo chargers and tuning programs alike. I'm shopping with a vague idea of what I want to do, not looking for specifics, haha. I see a LOT of potential from my pony.

The great thing about SCT is, they will contact you, ask you what you want, and install 3 custom tunes for your specific needs.

Will SCT do that if oyu just buy the program, or does it cost extra? I love customer service.

*While we are on the subject, how PSI can the stock 3.9l handle? It looks like it can handle a good 7-8 PSI without even flinching, but one has to be careful with this thing. I know too many '03 Cobra owners with useless motors becaue they kept on puching the boundaries, haha.

When you buy the Tuner, they will contact you before they ship it. That's when they will create the 3 programs. It's all included in the purchase price.

EDIT.......
Not sure about the PSI. AutoBadges might be able to help ya there. His 3.8 is s/charged...

Thanks. I'll have to ask Autobadges, this is my first venture into the 3.9l V-6. I have been cruising around on Google, and haven't been able to find a S/C for teh 3.9l, anyone know who makes 'em?
