if you decide to get it fixed the labor is gonna cost you a mint, having to take part the whole engine and all. ur best bet would probably be to part out the car. you wont get much for the whole car with a blown gasket, but if you part it out to people that are in need of and/or in search of certain parts you can definitly make a good deal of money. you'd prob get at most like 1 to 2 grand for the car with the bad engine, if youre lucky... im not good with numbers so i dont know how far off that estimate is. but if you part the car out, you could sell the wiring harness for a good amount, sell the exhaust, seats can go for quite a bit, if the dash panel is in really good condition that could be worth some. people are always looking for headlights and tail lights, bumpers, hell, you could probably even get something for a good windshield. parting the car will more than likely get you more money than the whole car with a bad engine. id say part it if you have the time and you either know people that need the stuff or you dont mind working through ebay.

yea definitly do that, if you dont have to change anything around. if you gotta get a new rear end, exhaust, suspension, wiring harness, and other misc. stuff, youd be better off just buyin a GT

parts to replace a head gasket...not too expensive, around a hundred for Head set and any additional supplies. BUT, since you're going to be in there (if you decide to do it) you may as well upgrade...if money allows. I wouldn't recommend doing a head gasket as a first timer, by yourself unless you have someone with more experience to help you.

one word...TIME... It takes time to do it. And, I don't think it would cost a couple of grand in labor. If the shop you use wants that much RUN! Maybe a grand..or a touch more. It shouldn't take more than 10 or so hours by the book..

its very time consuming, practically the whole engine has to be disassembled.

WHAT? To change a head gasket? Unbolt the accessories from the offending head. Remove the upper and lower intake, take the valve cover off. Unbolt the head.

4 hours...TOPS. For a rookie. I've only done a couple, but I would be willing to bet I could have the head off that car in under an hour. Assuming everything unbolted easily. i.e. no rusted parts, no snapping the head off of bolts.

10 hours if you're in the driveway, 12 degrees outside, you don't have any tools, and it's your first time.

Obviously there is a little more involved, but theres no chance of it taking 10 hours.
