Default Shift Points

This is more of a statment post for debate than a question post. I've noticed a lot of questions concering how to shift a manual better, or how to get rid of that auto lag, and I noticed a lot of good a bad answers out there. One big thing I noticed is that a lot of people reccommend the tuners so that they can reset their shift points and what not. Problem is that most people have no idea what they're doing. For example, people get a tuner and reset their rev limits to 6K+, not a bad idea, but then some people will reset their shift points to 5500+ rpms on atuos, now I'm not 100% sure about the 99-04s, but the 94-98s loose hp and accelleration at around 5000 rpms, so I'm guessing the 99+ will be around 5800, but the problem comes in when people with autos set their shift points to being too high. The point I'm trying to make is, if you don't use a dyno to accurately set your shift points, then you could be ininvertantly hurting your accelleration because if, like a manual, you shift too late, or shift at too high of an rpm, your engine will of been working so hard that the shift pushes you out of the power band which hurts your accelleration. Ex. you have an auto and you reset your shift points with the WOT to 5500rpms and your cars maximum effeciency when shifting is 5000 rpms, you wind up reving too high and you will begin to loose hp and accelleration, then when you shift you may fall all the way back down to 2000rpms, whcih is out of your power band which agian hurts your accelleration, now if your car were to shift at 5000 rpms, then your next gear would drop your rpms to 3000rpms which is still in your powerband, and therefore allows for the best accelleration. Now if you shift too early, this is the case in most stock autos and some new stick drivers, you don't fully reach your power band and therfor never release the cars full potential. So my advice is, use a dyno to properly reset your shift points, now you can use your ears and your senses to fell when the car should shift out, like I did, but you really should use a dyno to get it set right. I'm sorry I made such a long post, but I feel that this should be said, if anyone is confused then ask a question because maybe I or someone else like yellowpony can help. I just thought this is something that needed to be said before somebody screws up their tranny.
