How exactly does Nitrous work?
Nitrous is usually shot into the intakes..which is best. Its a freezing cold air that flows so fast that it makes hp as more flow = more hp for the engine. Its usually a button you push after you clear the lines (purge) and you usually hit it about 2500rpms when the car is picking up and you have control and towards the power band.
Also some nos shots are delivered through your air intake, I beleive this is a dry setup, others are delived into your intake manifold, and I think there is one type that is fed directly into your engine, but I'm not sure on that one.
Dry shot: goes into the air intake (cheapest, easiest to install, less HP)
wet shot: uses extra fuel jets with the nitrous into the intake
Direct port: Nitorus is directed right into each cylender along with extra fuel (most expensive and hardest to install Most HP)

it works because n2o breaks down into nitrogen and oxygen (I believe it breaks down because of the engine heat, but I'm not certain why it breaks down) and the more oxygen and fuel you can get into your cylinders, the more power you can make.
