Default Tuner... Chip??

I have no experience in the field of tuners or chips, I was wondering if anyone has a link to an introduction on this field? Also what is better to get a chip or a tuner? Do you need both? Can you use both? Is the power gain worth 400? What brands should I be looking to buy? Diablo I hear alot? Thanks for all the help. I have a 1998 3.8L.

Since it's a 98 model, look into the SCT XCal 2 flash tuner

Well I have the diablo, but due to the age of our ecu, both the x cal and the diablo will have the same restrictions on our car, but don't worry, you can still do all of the major stuff, its just the small stuff we can't do like recalibrate the speedo to bigger gears, because we have to have a 23 tooth gear to fix that problem. So its really just which one you want, but if you get the diablo, then I can PM you some advice. By the way, get one off of ebay, you'll save tons of money, just make sure the model number matches with the year, go to diablo.com to check that one out because I don't remember which one it is, but it is the one for 96-03 mustang V6 and V8.

Yes I normally recommend looking for a used Predator, but having seen some postings from pre-1999 owners that indicated some of the adjustability, such a speedometer correction, available to 1999-2003 owners isn't applicable, I thought the XCal 2 may have more such features. I personally use a Predator though and have nothing but good things to say about my experience with it.

Well, the V6 99-03s don't have the speed limitator either, just a rev limitator, the speed lim. is for the V8s which can produce nice deals of speed even with a rev limit.
